Jackson County Youth Suicide Prevention Coalition

We are a community coalition of students, mental health professionals, concerned parents, nurses and caring volunteers dedicated to reducing youth suicide in Jackson County, Oregon. We are an outgrowth of the Garret Lee Smith Memorial Act which funds youth suicide prevention in Oregon.

What We Do

We are involved actively in suicide prevention education. We do not provide direct services.

Our educational programs include the following:

• School based education (RESPONSE)
• Crisis Worker Training (ASIST)
• Basic suicide prevention skills (QPR)

We support community based programs such as:

• LIFE ART Project
  
• Emergency Room Patient Follow Up
• Emergency Room Means--Restriction Education for Parents of At-Risk Youth
• Improving Access to Mental Health Resources in Jackson County
• Public Media Campaigns
• Support Groups
• Annual National Survivors of Suicide Day

Members of the Coalition man the information booth at the LifeArt Medford Art In Bloom event May 12 and 13, 2012.

We are collaborating with the QPR Institute in producing a free Android Phone App called Suicide Crisis Support.

We attended the April, 2011 Annual American Association of Suicidology meeting in Portland.

We advocated for evidence-based Emergency Department programs for at risk youth at the ATAB 5 meeting on Jan. 19, 2011.
