Basics of Enrollment Eligibility

1. Service in any on the five branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard)
2. Discharged under any condition other than Dishonorable
3. Minimum Duty Requirements (MDR): Veterans who enlisted after 9/7/1980 or who entered active duty after 10/16/1981 must have served 24 continuous months or the full period for which they were called to active duty. Prior to these dates, the MDR is 90 consecutive days. The MDR does not apply to veterans discharged for hardship, convenience of the government, or because of a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.
4. Reservists and National Guard may also qualify if they were called to active duty (other than training), under Title 10 of the United States Code, and they completed the full period for which they were activated, or were discharged due to a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.
5. OIF/OEF veterans, including Reservists and National Guard activated under Title10, are entitled to five years of free health care, provided service was in a combat theater or imminent danger pay area.
6. Mental Health Services (MHS) are available at VA-SORCC. At the time of this writing, eligible veterans can "walk-in" to triage, 8 A.M. to 4 P.M, Monday through Friday, in Building 201 (Please call to confirm current MHS hours at (541) 826-2111). Triage is for any medical situation, including mental health. For urgent care needs and emergencies, help should be sought at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Roseburg or a local ER. Un-enrolled veterans requiring urgent care can be enrolled "on the spot." However, if the veteran is later determined to be be ineligible for VA health care, they may be required to pay for any care they received while under the presumption of eligibility.
7. Readjustment counseling and related mental health services for eligible veterans are exempt from VA co-pays.
